How Do I …
Make Donations to the New Berlin Library?
At the library, we are always happy to accept your gently used books, movies, puzzles and more. If you have a donation, please bring your items to our front circulation desk or drop them in our donation box located just inside the front door (next to the copy machine). If you have a large number of items, give us a call or stop by the front desk and we will gladly make arrangements to meet you outside and help bring them in.
Also, please remember we do not accept encyclopedias, textbooks, medical books, VHS tapes or any items that are ripped, torn or dirty. If in doubt, just ask us by stopping in or calling 262-785-4980.
National Grammar Day
Let's Celebrate All Moth Month Long!
We all know that good grammar saves lives (Let's eat Grandma OR Let's eat, Grandma) and for the past 17 years this life-saving concept has been celebrated on March 4th. In fact, President George W. Bush officially recognized this important day in a letter of commemoration on Grammar Day's inaugural year (2008. 17 years ago. Because math is hard).
March 4th may have already come and gone for 2025, but there are still ways those of us who hold proper grammar near and dear to our hearts can celebrate:
- take an online quiz to test your grammar prowess
- check out the article "Ten Grammar Myths Exposed!!"
- read the Society for the Promotion of Good Grammar (SPOGG) blog for some humorous grammar antidotes
- check out books such as Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing by Mignon Fogarty or Things That Make Us (sic) by Martha Brockenbrough (founder of Grammar Day)
But most of all, remember that good grammar knows no season. Be sure to police your loved ones' grammar endlessly. No doubt they will thank you in the the end. After all, it could save there their lives!
What We’re Reading
The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo
This debut novel follows the forty-year marriage of David and Marilyn Sorenson, chronicling their loves, challenges, highs and lows -- including a secret adoption, a young widow, a fabricated existence and a questionable pregnancy -- all while raising four daughters in the suburbs of Chicago. While life may not always be rosy for the Sorenson clan, it is a universally held belief among everyone who knows David and Marilyn that their love for each other trumps all else. It is a book about choosing every day to build a meaningful life with your soulmate and sticking together through it all. Fans of Anne Tyler, Jodi Picoult, Laura Dave or Liane Moriarty should definitely pick this one up. And if you love it, try Lombardo’s second novel Same As It Ever Was.
